Herb rotation: a four-season schedule for one square metre

How do you stagger three modules so something is always ready to cut? The schedule we derived from 12,400 households.

Sow all three modules at once and you will harvest everything in the same week, then stare at bare trays. Rotation is not about volume; it is about a three-week offset.

Our base schedule: module A for fast leaves (rocket, pak choi, 28–32 days), module B for slow herbs (basil, parsley, 50–60 days), module C for seedlings and replacements. Every three weeks, C moves into whichever tray has emptied.

In summer, move basil to the inner module and reverse it in winter; on an east-facing counter, extend the photoperiod to 13 hours after November to offset falling daylight.

The schedule ships with every unit as a planting guide, and owners can request the updated seasonal version.

Every figure comes from a full growing season in the Verdara cabin.
